Caley-Beth Gets Cruelty-Free Certification

Caley-Beth is excited to announce that our brand is now Leaping Bunny approved! To celebrate, we want to share all the reasons why we chose to get certified and what makes choosing cruelty free products so important.

What Does Cruelty Free Mean?

When you hear 'cruelty free' what comes to mind? For Caley-Beth, this means choosing ethically sourced ingredients and making conscious decisions to ensure no living creature comes to harm.

As it stands, animal testing is not required by law for cosmetics or household products in Canada. That doesn't mean that everything is automatically free from cruelty though. For example, some companies decide to test ingredients on animals to check their safety. Another reason why a business might take part in testing is if they decide to sell in mainland China. Most cosmetic and household products in China are required to test on animals regardless of where the product is from. Even in places where animal testing is totally banned are not fully free from cruelty, as there are so many loopholes in the law.

Sadly, there is just not a set definition of cruelty free when it comes to legislation around the world. That is where certification and independent audits come in! Programs that certify products can set strict rules around what is and is not allowed, and in doing so offer customers peace of mind.

Who Are Leaping Bunny?

There are many cruelty free claims that companies make, but the only way to truly trust the promises being made is to have regular checks being done to ensure that animal testing is not being conducted or commissioned on any level. That's where Leaping Bunny comes in...

“By 1996, 'cruelty-free' shopping had become popular, but it was also confusing, sometimes misleading, and ultimately frustrating. Companies had begun designing their own bunny logos, abiding by their own definition of 'cruelty-free' or 'animal friendly' without the participation of animal protection groups.

In response, eight national animal protection groups banded together to form the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC). The CCIC promotes a single comprehensive standard and an internationally recognized Leaping Bunny Logo. "We work with companies to help make shopping for animal-friendly products easier and more trustworthy.”

To be certified by Leaping Bunny, companies and their suppliers (and manufacturers!) cannot conduct, commission, or be party to animal tests. They also need to have regular monitoring and audits to make sure all rules are being followed. Plus, their commitment needs to be renewed regularly.

Because of these strict rules, Leaping Bunny is trusted worldwide, and Caley-Beth decided to get officially certified to show our dedication to our ideals as well as to help you shop with ease.

Caley-Beth has always been about protecting the planet, and that includes those who live here. We care about animals and their welfare, and so getting cruelty free certification is our way of showing you that we take ethical issues seriously. Caley-Beth is proud to be able to use the Leaping Bunny logo, and we hope you are excited at this next step too!
